Kay, W.S. Langdon was my great-great-great grandfather. I am Richard Herndon, grandson of Henrietta Herndon, whose works you've used as references in your historical account.

Dr. Langdon's medical instruments were passed down to me through his son Willie, granddaughter Adeline, great granddaughter Henrietta, then my father Richard.

I wondered if you have any information to indicate if these instruments were used in the Civil War, or if W.S. Langdon had any commission in the war in addition to "special agent."

I also have copies of my grandmother's books "Susan", and
"My Grandpa," Vols. 1 and 3 (I'm missing Vol. 2). If you have not seen all of these books to use in your genealogy I would be happy to loan them to you.

Kay, I am interested in determining if Dr. Langdon had a commission as a battalion surgeon or other medical position in the War. If a definite association can be made between the tools and Dr. Langdon, this would increase the value of the surgical instruments, although I don't plan to sell them.
